States and Union Territories of the Indian Union Indian Constitution


Before August 5, 2019, India had 29 states and 7 Union Territories (UTs). Now India has only 28 states since Jammu and Kashmir has been converted into a union territory. Also, Ladakh has been bifurcated from Jammu and Kashmir and made a union territory. Thus, India now has 28 states and 9 union territories.
